NEW SIMPLY CREATE TOO CHALLENGE #6 - "RED HOT" & 'USE MY STASH DAY'

Today starts a brand new challenge over at Simply Create Too. It's Challenge #6 - "Red Hot". Interpret any way your creativity leads you--you have 13 days to enter! Here are my entries as one of the Design Team members--This one is my Valentine candy wreath--super easy--absolutely yummy![I used stash candy, ribbons, doiley,flowers, ribbons & my "Hugs" Sentiment Digi from 2010--well, everything!] I also entered it at Use It Tuesday - all about love challenge and DisDigiDesigns Valentine Challenge

And, of course, I had to create a card: I used my Digi #106 from last year. I want to enter this card in Moving Along With the Times - Valentine Challenge.

I also entered this one too at Use It Tuesday--all about love--everything except white card base is stash.As most days, I use my 'stash' to create my cards. My 'stash bin' is my 'first go-to' before I go to my 'new' papers. Bet you've seen these cute little electric cars humming along the streets. I think they are so cute--in fact, I thought I wanted one until I read the specs on the internet--and that's why I drew it--but with my name for it.

We've been on a 'short trip' so I haven't done a card. We spent several days in my hometown visiting my 94 year old Aunt and the rest of my family. Want to see the car I finally got???? Hi, Everyone: Hope your week is going well. The tornados missed us but we got several inches of needed rain. Much damage and some deaths in Alabama; so please keep those who were not as fortunate in your prayers.

I'm sssoooo excited!!! I got a wonderful surprise in an e-mail from CardMaker Magazine announcing that CardMaker Magazine is FREE on-line if you subscribe to the snail-mail version. Well-----here I go to their site and log in--and the very first thing I see is one of my cards featured in their Reader Reachout Section that I'd sent to the Kyrie Foundation several months ago. Today, I'm starting on my Valentine Cards for Card Cupids. Got an e-mail from Stephanie that Card Cupids is trying to add another shelter in 2012, and Card Cupids will need LOTS of cards. If you want to help a very worthwhile organization, just visit the Card Cupids Blog to get all the details.

My Digi #133 is a computer-generated digi that I'm using for patterned paper for my V Day Cards. Normally, I hand-draw all my digis, but my 'hand drawn hearts' were lop-sided so I did this one by computer. I wanted a background paper that wasn't 'too busy' and this one turned out just right for my projects. [That's why I love and draw digis--any shape, size, color you want you can do!] Hope it will work for you, too? As you can see on my card below, I printed it off on colored paper. This is a sample of some of the cards, I'm mailing to Card Cupids, hope you do too! [P.S. CHALLENGE #2 @ SIMPLY CREATE TOO

Today, 9 December 2011 at Simply Create Too begins "Challenge #2 - Embossing" and ends at midnight [CST] 22 December 2011.

All of us on the Design Team of Simply Create Too are anxious to see the 300+ entries in our "Challenge #2 - Embossing" [You decide what kind of embossing]. Here goes my inspiration project for you to enjoy:

This little embossed candy holder is a perfect size to either hang on your Christmas tree or give to your guests as a small "Thank You" after their holiday visit to your home. You can fill it with homemade cookies or candy. Yum!

This started out as a Jello box. I covered it with Georgia Pacific light green cardstock that I ran through my Big Shot using a Sizzix embossing folder. I used red Offray ribbon to made the handle and bow on the side; then I wrapped a 1/2" piece of GP coordinating patterned paper around my box, added a punched spring of greenery with a red gem as my only embellishment. Almost forgot: I then filled my Christmas box with some of my favorite candy [no, not homemade--I'm taking the easy way this Christmas].

DIGIS REMOVEDYes, It's still Christmas digis--and the two above are others of my favorites. As you can see, one has a sentiment; the other, not!

This is my card using my Digi #130/31 and the spotlight technique. After last year's after-Christmas sale, I got a box of 30 Christmas Cards with envelopes for 50 cents. I used one of those for the base of this card, with Georgia Pacific Red and Green Cardstock, my Digi tied up with Offray ribbon.

DIGI #129 - MY VERY LAST ???? CHRISTMAS DIGI

OK, so you caught me--in my last post I told you that Digi #128 was my last Christmas digi and the last in my "Christmas Ornament Series". Well, I changed my mind!

I rarely do 'paper piecing' but I really like it and just had to have an ornament that was right for piecing.

So here they are. Above is Digi #129 and below is my card. I'll tell you what I learned by trial-and-error, too: If you decide you want to paper piece my ornament, use a small-patterned paper like I chose here--it looks much better [I think]??? Also, to make it stand out more, I used pop dots under it.

P.S: I love, love, love Christmas and I might not want to draw/post anything else for a while. So, I won't tell you that Digi #129 is my last Christmas Digi, OK???

Today begins our first challenge over at Simply Create Too--And it'll be an easy challenge too--Challenge #1 is "All About Christmas" We have three great stamps packages for prizes this challenge.

The Design Team spent extra time making their projects for our challenge, why not go over and take a look. This is my card for Challenge #1.

On my card, I used one of my Christmas Digis from my Christmas Ornament Series - "My Church". The patterned paper is from the Scrapboook Outlet at Pigeon Forge, the lime and white cardstocks are Georgic Pacific, the gems are from Michael's Crafts and the ribbon is Offray.

DIGI #128 - MY LAST CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT

Like my new look?

The Christmas Digi above is my last Christmas ornament of the series for this year. I wanted this last one to be special. And, it is special to me because I drew it from a 16 x 20 watercolor I painted for our preacher at Church.

On my inspiration card below my ornament has my church's name on it, but on my Christmas Digi #128 I just put 'church'. This makes it generic and maybe you'll use it on some of your Christmas cards.

Being Thankful

Our lesson at church today was about being thankful. Not ' just thankful'. What we sometimes fail to do is express our graditude for the gifts that we have received as a blessing from God. Thought provoking, uh?

Most of us get those e-mails that 'make the rounds' from all your acquaintances. My husband Wayne knows I don't usually even open these--but he reads every one of them! If he sends me one, I know it's special. What do you think of these pictures Wayne got from a couple of his 'coffee-drinking-buddies'?

God's work is all beautiful, isn't it?

YES, I'M HOME!! And, as most of you knew--I was in Hawaii for the past two weeks. I had such a wonderful visit with son Troy, DIL Joscie, and our two most delightful Grandsons, Jalen & Jordan. We played Wii [Highlanders], DS [Highlanders], watched movies, shopped a little for 'surprises' [Highlanders game with must-have figures, movie Cars 2, and online at Cool Things Cheap and Think Geek]. And, did I mention 'snuggling'--the most important part of visit for me. We also Skyped a lot with Pop [cause he couldn't be in Hawaii with me].

Here is another of my Christmas digis. I used Digi #122 for a recent class my friend Carolyn and I hosted at our church [Lightwood Church of Christ] for our Women's Fellowship. We crafted a Bath Spa Set with a hand made coordinating card, tag and a door hangar ["Do Not Disturb" for the bathroom door]. All of the items had Digi #122 on them. I didn't take a picture of just the items, but here is a picture of some of the ladies with their cards. We had fun and also yummy, yummy foods [as usual]. If you're interested in any of the spa items, let me know and I'll send you the instructions and recipe. Great little Christmas gift basket for teachers, co-workers, etc.

DIGI #116 - "Party Hat With Noise Maker" with Cards for Inspiration

CARD MOVED TO DIANE'S CHALLENGE CARDS
I used Digi #116 to make some of my cards [it's on the Top Right]. As you can see, I copied it on colored cardstock, cut it out [in part] and paper pieced it onto my card--I didn't cut out the 'string that holds the hat on your head"; I used real twine. If you haven't done this before, there is a great tutorial over at CDAC for "Paper Piecing". It's an easy project but adds impact to your card. I used a Martha Stewart punch on the right edge of the card; then used her pink chalk to lightly distress the right bottom edge of my card so the edging will show up better. All of my cards this week are being mailed tomorrow to Send A Smile 4 Kids.

Today it was only in the low 80's and the sun was shining! It was wonderful to walk outside and not sweat! [If I could 'change' our weather here in central Alabama, we would have Spring and Fall all year long! Those temperatures are perfect for me--I don't like Summer or Winter.] I didn't even turn of the A/C in my workshop; the fan was the only thing I needed! Got a lot done, too--made lots of cards--some with Digi #113 - "Scarecrow Sam". Here is one I made using Digi #113. They are for Send a Smile 4 Kids and Card Cupids [as usual]!

DIGI #110 - "PUMPKIN, PUMPKIN, I LOVE PUMPKIN"

When our oldest Grand [Jalen] was around 2 years old, we went to the Pumpkin Patch in Clanton, Alabama, to get their Halloween pumpkins. At the Pumpkin Patch, there were also a giant slide, animal petting and good eats. We spent most of the day, and we fed the goats, played in the sand box, ate hot dogs and Jalen picked out his own pumpkin. We all had a ball. Digi #110 was inspired by Jalen on this trip. Want to see our picture of Jalen in the pumpkin patch? I knew you'd want to see it, but I'll spare you from having to listen to the video of him finding his perfect pumpkin and saying, "Pumpkin, pumpkin, I love pumpkin !" But, remember I'm the Granny and I know he is cute. Also, take our word for it: the video is wonderful, sweet music to a Granny and Pop's ears.

But, I used this cute image for cards for SS4K and put "Trick or Treat" on the cards for girls. I'll be giving you a boy Digi next--must not show 'partipality' [the 'word' my sweet niece used to say when she was small if her sister was favored with something and she wasn't!]

I don't think I ever mentioned--I LOVE, LOVE carousel horses. In fact, we have one that we made sitting in the corner of our dining room. Several years ago, we were on our way to the Smoky Mountains and stopped off in Chattanooga, TN, to antique. We found a black child's 'ridie' horse. We bought it; and when we got home, I painted it and Wayne put in on a pole with a platform. I'll try to take a picture of it when my new camera gets here.

Long-story-long, I named this digi, "Chatty" for my carousel horse also named "Chatty" [you know, from 'Chattanooga, TN].

DIGI #106 - HOME SWEET HOME - USA

Today while I was trying to re-scan my digis from last year that I had not posted here [remember my external-hard drive crashed]. I came across this one that was inspired by a picture we saw in a little shop on Artists' Row outside of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on one of our 2010 trips. I told the shop girl that I'd like to do a digi inspired by her picture. She had hand-drawn the states in her picture--Me: I used a [free] font from my computer. She e-mailed me that she's going to make a card using my digi and put it beside her picture in the shop. Win-Win for me!

Here is my card [fuzzy as can be!] My camera's operator wasn't doing good today! After 7 tries I gave up on a clear picture and used this one [That camera is going back to my son Troy--I do not like it! It's too temperamental!]

I've used cardboard letters on my card, but in case you don't have any, I've also included 'USA' in my favorite font for your use. Oh, you see the tomato--it's from our garden--Wayne picked a 5-gallon bucket full today--wonder what's he's going to do with them??? They do make great sandwiches--just bread, tomato, lots of mayo, salt/pepper--YUMMY!!!

JUST A QUICK NOTE

Well, things are in a mess here in my Digi World. I have an external drive that I put All, and I do mean 'ALL', my digital stuff on. I put everything on it so if my PC crashed, I'd still have all my important things. You know what's coming next, uh?
You're right, my external hard drive crashed--good news, my new laptop PC is still working fine; however, I didn't think [think is the operative word] since all my stuff was on the external drive that it needed backing up. [Wonder what my husband was muttering under his breathe?]

I've got Panda Recovery running now so "MAYBE"--say a BIG one.

ALMOST TIME FOR SCHOOL - DIGI #103 [Penny]

During our visit, our youngest Grandson [Jordan] told me to "draw his big school pencil". [We got the Grands a joke pencil from the Dollar Tree. It's about 1 1/2 feet long and big around as my thumb]. So I did, but instead of a boy holding his pencil [I'm partial to drawing boys!!] I drew a girl holding a pen [because my husband gave me a beautiful Hawaiian wooden pen like this] instead of a pencil. Jordan still thought it was funny!

Anyway, above is Digi #103 [of course you know I named her "Penny"] and a Challenge Card with it too. Maybe you can use it for some back-to-school projects.

DIGI #101 & DIGI #102 - BRIAN & BRIANNA BANANA

Happy Saturday!

To begin my second year blogging, I thought I'd start by showing & telling you about my very first digital designs.

My philosophy is: "I can do anything anyone else can do" My philisophy begin when I changed my long-range career & personal goals. In order to begin/reach my goals, I joined the Alabama Air National Guard and HAD to complete Air Force Basic Training at San Antinio, Texas AND in the HOT of summer, 1980. To do this, I had to reach 'deep down inside myself' thus my PHILOSOPHY!

But, I digress [but I have to: It's important to know the 'beginning']. In early 2010, [while trying to get my strength back from chemo treatments], a Yahoo friend told me about handmade cards for charity and the Free Digital Stamps website. So I begin saving EVERY free digi that was posted and made cards with everyone's free digis. My philisophy came to mind, but I couldn't even draw a straight line! Anyway, I started simply--and I DO MEAN SIMPLE! And on 12 May 2010, I drew the two 'Bananas" above. The 2-3 year olds in my Church class loved them and thought they were so funny! So, the beginning [of my drawing].

But, what about "Diane's Digital Designs"? Well, my son Troy told me to make me a blog to post my digitals. After lots of phone calls to them for help [Joscie's had a blog since 2007], "Diane's Digital Designs" came about! I have learned so digi/blog-much and haven't looked back [except to look at my 15 July 2010 post!]

Digi #101 and Digi #102 above are my first attempts their with inspiration cards.

Ice Cream Sundae - Jessica Weible Illustrations

wanted to show off my card done with one of Jessica Weible Illustrations digis for the Design Team!

Check out this Ice Cream Sundae Card--ice cream is my [also both my Grand's] favorite food group--made this one easy to do.

I love to layer images on projects! I achieved this effect by simply printing out the Jessica Weible Illustrations stamp twice, colored and cut out both; then cut out the Sundae BOWL and the top ice cream layer from one of my printed pieces. I used foam stickers to attach the top layer over the bottom later. I accented with one of my favorite accessories!

Today is a sad and also very excited day for me.

Sad: We're leaving Hawaii, our son, DIL and the 2 Grands tonight to go home.

DON'T GIVE UP ON ME!

Earlier I mentioned my First Year Anniversary and posting my 100th Digital Design. Well, don't give up---I promise it will come later this week!

We're still vacationing in Hawaii; spending lots of time just looking at our son, DIL and the 2 Grands [and playing some too] trying to store up enough memories to last until our next visit. In fact, as I'm typing this, the youngest [Jordan] and Pop are playing hide-and-seek with 4 Lego-men [the Lego-men are each about 1/2 inch long]. Jordan is hiding them and Pop's job is to find them. Hi [Aloha], Everyone:

We're finally in Hawaii! Here visiting my son and his family!! Joy! Joy! Joy! It has been a year since Wayne [husband] had seen the Grands and a little over 7 months since I'd seen them. We were having 'grandparents withdrawals'! Both boys have grown so much! I had really, really missed seeing my son and DIL too!

Here is Digi #99 "All About Fashion #1". My inspiration card was the one used in my card group, Stamping Swaps. We used Digi #99 as the image for a cards swap. Everyone's cards were just wonderful and so different!

DIGI #97 - "FANCY FLAG FRUIT ICE CREAM BAR" & CHALLENGES CARDS

Here is one of my [two] 4th of July Digis. I came up with this digi last week while watching Unwrapped [my 'go-to-sleep' program] on Food Network. It was an ALL ice cream show that night, and since my favorite dessert [well, one of my favorite sweets] it woke me up! Marc had an ice cream bar like Digi #97 and it was my AAAH--HA moment because I needed another 4th of July design. He said the red section was 'strawberry' flavor, the white 'watermelon' and the blue 'raspberry'. And, "Fancy Flag Fruit Ice Cream Bar" became the name of Digi #97.

Thank you all for the visits here to get Digi #93, Arlene the Artist, and leaving your comments or just checking one of the 'Reaction' blocks. You all are very encouraging and make me strive to draw better.

We're still in the Smokies and still having a G-R-E-AT Time! We're driving lots of 'back roads' and still not tired of looking at the beautiful scenery and the 'Smokey Mountain Way of Life'. After church Sunday, Wayne turned me loose to go to the outlets while he took a nap. Had lots of fun at the Scrapbooking Store/Outlet--got only a zillion patterned papers, more punches, etc. We also got in a little more shopping yesterday [Oh, P.S. Happy belated Memorial Day!] and took advantage of the sales. Every trip up here Wayne always gets shoes; me--clothes, rocks [yes, rocks] and a few books! No Kindle for me [yet] love 'holding' my book!

Today, we got back from the 'back mountain roads' earlier and I thought I'd take a few minutes to leave a quick post with a new Digi, #94--my contribution digi for you who might need a "Father's Day" image for your FD projects.

We're here in the Smokey Mountains on our RV in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where we got married 17 years ago! And, still happy to be married.

Yesterday we rode through Cades Cove [always a MUST on every trip] where we saw several deer and one huge bear. There were idiots outside their vehicles taking pictures--guess they've never watched The National Geographic Channel nor seen what happens when you get too close to a bear!

Today, we went to the Scrapbook Store/Outlet---FUN! FUN! FUN [You've got to visit when you're here!] Got lots of wonderful paper and VERY reasonably priced! Found out they also have another store in Destin, Florida [OH!!!BOY!!!!].

Since we've had this trip planned for a while, I drew/scanned/downloaded Digi #93 a few weeks ago. Can you imagine 'who' inspired this one? Her name is Arlene the Artist.

DIGI #92 - "THE GRADUATE"

I drew Digi #92 this morning when I realized I had not drawn a Digi for graduation and our youngest Grand [Jordan] is 'graduating' and going into the first grade. Also, he just lost 2 teeth [front--one lower and one upper] and he pulled them himself!! He's growing up ssssoooo fast. He'll tell you very quickly that he's a BIG BOY! And, he is. We've missed so much of both boys growing up since they are so far away. Thank goodness for Skype, E-mail, airline tickets, etc. Also, our wonderful son and DIL are great about posting pictures and calling us.

Enough, maybe YOU can use Digi #92 for projects for any graduation you might have, too?

Hello, Everyone:

Hope you're enjoy your Spring days. It might have been Spring in central Alabama, but it was cool here all last week -- mid 40's nights/60-70 days. [Would like this weather all the year around--no AC nor heating needed!] BUT yesterday SUMMER hit--was 92 with 96 predicted for today! WOW!

Before I get to my cards, wanted to tell you about Digi #90 "Super Boy": My youngest Grandson, Jordan, HAD to be Superboy on his first day of school. Digi #87 "Want Cake?" is a digi I drew after making a HUGE cake for our Church for the March Birthdays. Everyone said it was delicious--part was chocolate with chocolate icing; part was butter cake with cream cheese icing. One of the 3 year old girls that I taught said her favorite is strawberry. Every Sunday she runs to give me a big hug so you know she'll get strawberry cake this month [even though it's not her birthday month]!!!

Today I'm posting Digi #86, Sprigs of Willows, and one of the cards I made with this Digi. When Wayne is out riding around on his Kawasaki mule looking at the lawn, flowers, garden, etc., he usually brings me a couple of flowers (we have roses, camellias, gardinias). Well, we didn't have any flowers, but he was trimming up the willow tree down on the corner of our house and brought me some of them. I thought they were pretty--especially in an empty soda bottle! So, I drew them on an old book page [just to add a little interest]. Now, even though the branches are gone, I still have Digi #86 to remind me of his sweet gesture. Brings a smile, every time!

Happy Monday and All week long:

Digi #85 is a simple Digi but has loads of possibilities. I've used it in one of my challenge cards above; I also used it last week for my card making class. Each one of the 10 ladies were given a card blank, two pieces of patterned papers, 2 copies of Digi #85 and some embellishments--but NO instructions except "Make a Card using these supplies". When the cards were completed--we had 10 totally different and beautiful cards. I was amazed and so were the ladies!!! Hope you enjoy using this digi!

Here's Digi #84, "Earl Carrot Tea for Me, Please!"--another of my Easter Digis. Was glad I drew a few Easter images earlier because it's 'Flu-ville' around our house for the last week and we're still not much better. But, with doctor visits, antibotics, cough syrup and already on our 4th box of tissues--the nurse assured us today 'give it a little more time and you'll feel better.' I have faith!!

When we're feeling better, I'll try to work on cards using Digis #83 & #84!

Happy Thursday with lots of Blessings to you, as I am!

The Simply Create Design Team has asked that I join them as a Designer!!!!! I'm very, very honored! I've taken a look through all their blogs and at their art. Boy, oh, boy!!! They set the bar high! I've got the most inspiration just looking around their sites! Got a lot to create to get even close! Can't Wait!!!

Now, for you, for today: I've posted "Penny the Peacock", Digi #83, that I drew last September by a request from a card-making friend, Collette. I'll try to post a card/project soon. Got a card making class for Card Cupids tonight at ["my best-est buddy"] Frances's church. All the cards made tonight will go for the sick kids at Card Cupids Organization, of course!

First, I want to apologize for not posting a new digi earlier this week. My wonderful, trusty laptop 'bit the dust' AGAIN! Now, I have a newbie and it's great but takes me some time to familiarize myself with all the new bells and whistles. Please bear with me if some things goes crazy, it's not my new HP--you'll know it's me!

Second, I am honored, excited and thrilled to be a Guest Designer at Card Cupids for this month and next (April & May). I've mentioned several times that this is an organization that I supportwith my hand crafted cards! Why not take a look and send them one of your beautiful creations?
