My Mamma died over 30 years ago, but I still have her button jar. She kept it near her sewing machine for use if she needed to sew on a lost button. I don't use the buttons--I just look at them occasionally and [now] smile. Digi #191 is my drawing of her button jar along with my card.

Absolutely excellent Diane - I have my mum's button tin and my Nan's button tin. I just sit and sort through them. Very very calming. lol.

Beautiful, Diane... I love buttons... I remember going through my grandmother's box of buttons as a child. I loved all the different textures and colors she had. Thanks for sharing your memory and your digital image!

OMG!! My father died just a little over three years ago. He & his brother ran the dry cleaning shop that their grandfather started way back when! His brother died about 8 years before him, and although he tried to keep it going on his own, finally decided to sell the shop when he was about 70 years old!! It took him over 5 years to sell it! He asked me sometime in that period if I wanted any of the buttons they had accumulated over the years from cleaning or tailoring their clients items. He was an avid woodworker on the side, owning many major wood shop tools, and creating many home projects/ repairs, plus turning out many,many home decorative projects. He knew my love of crafting, and thought I might want these random buttons!! I didn't want to seem like a crazy person, but yes....I took hundred's of buttons off his hands!! They all currently sit on the top shelf of my craft room (hundreds of them) in ball jars inherited from my Grandmother sorted by color. Some are so super unique!!

And as inspiration to you.....I cherish them...but I have also used them on cards...because that's what my Dad wanted me to do with them. Go ahead...splurge...I'm betting your Mama would want you to share them in the same loving way!!

DeleteMy Mum let me raid her button box that she has had for probably more than 30 years when I visited her last year. She wanted me to take anything I could use. I have used a number of them and it gives me pleasure every time I use one of her buttons. I still have quite a few left too. Thank you for the button jar digi but also for the memories that it has evoked in several of us. Judging by the previous comments, you have touched a number of us with this particular digi. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteMy Grandmother had one. I wish I had asked for it but I didn't. She actually kept it for the grandkids to go through & practice threading buttons. She passed away in 2002 & I didn't know anything about scrapbooking then but man, I sure missed out on some vintage buttons. And this digi brings back some wonderful memories. Thank you!
